Fat Augmentation for Facial Volume Enhancement and Natural Facial Augmentation

Facial Fat Augmentation in Los Angeles

Fat transfer is often called lipotransfer or Fat augmentation. These terms represent the same treatment modality which involves harvesting your own natural fat and using the fat to replenish volume in other parts of the face and body.

Fat Transfer Los Angeles

Treatment of deep facial wrinkles, loss of facial fat, and hollowness in the nasolabial areas is achieved with fat augmentation or fat transfer. This useful and natural technique uses the body's natural fat to augment the face to achieve a more natural and healthier facial silhouette.  Advocated by plastic surgeons for natural facial rejuvenation, facial fat grafting is an amazing alternative to Juvederm, Restylane, and Radiesse. Volume loss can accelerate the aging process on the face.  Volume fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can increase volume in the entire face, but are limited in terms of deep tissue augmentation and volume restoration on the face. Fat augmentation or fat transfer can provide immediate and superior results that have been shown to be longlasting and definitive in terms of facial volume enhancement.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a plastic surgeon practicing in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica and provides consultation and treatment of volume loss with facial fillers and fat augmentation.

Fat grafting has advanced considerably over the last decade as technical advancements have facilitated the harvesting and transfer of viable fat cells into areas of the face and body.  New research has shown that fat grafting has the added potential of transferring healthy stem cells that may incorporate into the recipient site.  Fat grafting with Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, represents a crucial middle-ground in facial rejuvenation as it an alternative to hyaluronic acid fillers and permanent fillers.  Fat grafting may be used in place of permanent facial implants as a means of restoring important facial volume.

Fat grafting is an outstanding alternative to other facial wrinkle treatments such as facial fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, and Radiesse) and neurotoxins such as Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin. These treatments all offer the benefits of non-invasive facial rejuvenation for patients who do not wish to undergo more definitive facial plastic surgery.  Contact Dr. Karamanoukian's office at (310) 998-5533 to discuss the differences in treatment between these different alternatives.

  1. Restore facial volume to the lower eyelids, nasolabial smile lines, cheeks, and lips.
  2. Add volume definition to sunken areas of the face.
  3. Correct hollowness and bony hands with fat volume correction.
  4. Add volume to the buttocks for a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Fat tranfer or fat augmentation is an outstanding non-invasive technique for facial rejuvenation in which healthy fat is harvested from the body and transferred to the face area to add volume to deep wrinkles and hollowness. The benefits of fat grafting are obvious when you realize that the added volume is natural, hence your body will not have a negative response or reaction to it.  Further, unlike hyaluronic acid facial fillers, the transferred fat can last for a long period of time if there is a healthy recipient site for the fat.  Fat transfer with Beverly Hills and Santa Monica plastic surgeon Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, is an outpatient procedure often performed in combination with other facial plastic surgery or alone under local anesthetic.

Lip augmentation with fat

Fat transfer and fat grafting are both safe procedures for lip augmentation.  Patients who have undergone previous augmentation with Juvederm or Restylane may also find that fat grafting provides a suitable and natural alternative to lip augmentation.  Typically, fat is harvested from the body and purified prior to injection into the upper or lower lip.  Fat transfer techniques can be optimized to increase longevity of the augmentation and to provide natural result in facial augmentation.

  1. Is facial fat grafting an outpatient procedure? In our office, facial fat grafting is designed to add youthful volume to the facial areas, including the cheeks, cheekbones, nasolabial folds, smile lines, and lips.  Fat grafting is all natural and utilizes your own fat to augment facial hollowness and to add youthful contours to the face.  Although facial fat grafting can be performed under anesthesia, it is typically well tolerated under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting.
  2. Where is the fat harvested from? Facial fat grafting utilizes your own fat.  During your consultation, Dr. Karamanoukian will examine the abdomen and thigh areas as suitable harvest sites for your fat grafting.  The abdominal or thigh areas provide highly transferable fat that is suitable for fat grafting on the face.
  3. Why is fat more natural than Juvederm or Restylane? Because fat transfer uses your own fat tissue, there is less chance that your body will form an allergic reaction or foreign body reaction.  Foreign material may cause an inflammatory reaction leading to rejection, granuloma, or inflammation.  Fat from your body is less likely to cause any of these reactions and has thus been found to be safe and effective.
