In July 2011, Merz Aesthetics, the maker of Xeomin, announced that the US Food and Drug Administration approved Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines, or frown lines between the eyebrows in adult patients. This marks another milestone for patients seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation as Xeomin is the third neurotoxin now used in the United States for reducing dynamic wrinkles of the face.
Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian was among the first physicians in the United States to use Xeomin as he is an Elite Program Participant with Merz Aesthetics. Studies from Merz Aesthetics, the makers of Xeomin were extremely positive regarding the use of Xeomin by the Elite Physician Participants. Over 96% of overall physicians in the study were satisfied with the result of Xeomin; Further, 9 out of 10 participating physicians were shown to be satisfied withthe consistency of the results with Xeomin. Finally, over 97% of patients rated the experience with Xeomin injections as good to excellent. Data obtained from Merz Aesthetics Elite Opportunity program.
QUESTIONS ABOUT XEOMIN:
- Is Xeomin the same thing as Botox? Xeomin is known as incobotulinumtoxin A, which is a modified Botulinum toxin similar to Botox and Botox Cosmetic, but not an identical molecule. Practically speaking, the effects of Xeomin and Botox are similar and dosing is the same for both cosmetic neurotoxin products. Both Xeomin and Botox are available in our Santa Monica and Beverly Hills plastic surgery offices.
- How is Xeomin made? Xeomin is manufactured by Merz Aesthetic, which uses a proprietary manufacturing process that isolates the therapeutic component of the botulinum toxin and removes the accessory proteins that are not needed for efficacy. Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, a board certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, believes that the Xeomin neurotoxin provides an outstanding alternative to other Botulinum neurotoxins such as Dysport and Botox Cosmetic.
Xeomin, an alternative to Botox, is currently available in our Santa Monica plastic surgery office. Xeomin is now the positioned with Botox and Dysport to provide temporary relief of dynamic wrinkles on the face. Both Dr. Karamanoukian and Physician Assistant Kelly Cummings are specifically trained as expert injectors in Xeomin and Botox. Call our office to schedule a comprehensive evaluation and treatment for Xeomin, Botox, or Dysport.
Xeomin works as an acetylcholine release inhibitor and functions very much similar to Botox Cosmetic. It is approved by the FDA to treat patients with blepharospasm in adults previously treated with onabotulinumtoxin A (Botox) and for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adults. Our Santa Monica plastic surgery office offers Xeomin as an ideal muscle relaxer for the temporary elimination of dynamic wrinkles.
