Abdominoplasty and Belly Button Scar Revision
Belly Button Surgery | Umbilicoplasty

Many people do not realize how important the bellybutton is until there is a dramatic change in the shape, size, and contour of the bellybutton.  Women who undergo childbirth recognize the importance of the bellybutton and the physical changes that occur with pregnancy and childbirth.  To some women, the changes in the bellybutton occur with the development of stretch marks or after abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, wherein the entire shape of the bellybutton is changed.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a trusted board certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles and has become an expert in the management of bellybutton repairs.

Bellybutton problems may include scars related to bellybutton piercing, bellybutton hernias, outpouchings of the bellybutton, complete loss of the bellybutton, distortion of the bellybutton after pregnancy and childbirth, or poor shape and thickened scars from an abdominoplasty, tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck, or surgical procedure.

If you are having problems with your bellybutton as a result of surgery or childbirth, Dr. Karamanoukian can provide you with expertise and a detailed recommendation plan for repair of this area.  Bellybutton scars may become thickened, discolored, and or distorted and there are many options for repair of the bellybutton area.  There is no ideal shape of a bellybutton and the bellybutton and umbilical area should be in physical harmony with the entire abdominal wall and stomach area.

Patients who have undergone previous abdominoplasty, mini-abdominoplasty, full tummy tuck, or mini tummy tuck can benefit from surgical or laser scar revision for their entire tummy tuck scar and/or their belly button.  The belly button is prone to develop hypertrophic scarring an thickening, causing it to lose its natural shape.  Laser scar revision can help reduce scar tissue and improve skin discoloration and redness.  For those patients who have dark discoloration on their abdominoplasty scars, Melarase cream can help blend out the color and lighten darkened areas of the skin.

During your consultation with Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, he will provide you with options for bellybutton revision or bellybutton scar revision.  These options may include a combination of topical cream, laser, surgical bellybutton revision, scar revision of the bellybutton, or IIT.  Many of Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian’s patients had a dramatic improvement in the shape and contour of the bellybutton with nonsurgical or surgical options.
