Can I breast feed after a breast lift surgery?

Can I breast feed after mastopexy or breast lift surgery?

Mastopexy surgery can be performed using several different techniques, all of which minimize injury to the lactation ducts that supply milk through the nipple.  In most cases, the patients who are able to breast feed will be able to do so in their next pregnancy as the breast lift surgery can be designed to recontour and tighten the skin without affecting the breast parenchyma or the lactation ducts of the breast.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian performs cosmetic breast lift surgery in order to redefine and recontour the breast in order to achieve a more youthful and perky contour to the breast altogether.  Although one of the recognizable risk with breast lift surgery is loss in the ability to breast feed, this is a rare and uncommon occurrence.

If you are concerned about the timing of breast lift surgery relative to your next pregnancy and your ability to breast feed, a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Karamanoukian will help you identify your risk and determine whether breast lift surgery should be performed before or after your next pregnancy.  Most patients are impressed by the low risk of permanent sensory changes or damage to the breast tissue with mastopexy.  Our Los Angeles plastic surgery office specializes in cosmetic surgery and Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian performs breast enhancement surgery, body contouring, and all aspects your cosmetic surgery.  Please call our surgical patient care coordinator at 310-998-5533.
