Can I undergo mole removal if I am prone to keloids?

Mole removal and birthmark removal are two procedures that can be performed for cosmetic or medical reason.  Mole removal is often required for patients who had atypical or abnormal moles that have some precancerous risks.  The exact diagnosis with a pigmented or abnormal mole can only be obtained from the surgical biopsy and this is one of the reasons why the patients undergo mole removal for medical reasons.  In addition, the patients often request to have a mole removed for cosmetic reasons and often these moles are sent to a dermatology pathologist in order to evaluate the mole under the microscope.  If you are prone to bad scarring or had previous shaved biopsies or mole removals on the chest and back with poor surgical scars, you are still a candidate for mole removal for medical or cosmetic purposes.

Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian will evaluate your problem and determine which biopsy or mole removal procedure is ideal in your case.  Often surgery is not required and Dr. Karamanoukian can provide you with specific options for mole removal.  If you have had a bad scar from a previous mole removal or think you may be prone to keloid scars, Dr. Karamanoukian can take necessary steps to improve old scars and to prevent or reduce the incidence of new scars.  Call our Los Angeles plastic surgery patient care coordinator at 310-998-5533 and schedule an appointment for mole removal in Los Angeles.
