Periareolar incision - breast implants surgery Los Angeles - Periareola scars - Los Angeles breast surgeon

There are several different types of incisions that are used for silicone or saline breast implant placement.  The two most common are the periareolar and inframammary incisions.  Our Los Angeles plastic surgery office offers comprehensive plastic surgery treatments for women who wish to have breast implants for the first time and for those who wish to undergo revision of a previous breast implant surgery.  Periareolar scars are among the most widely accepted incision types for breast implant surgery.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian can review your options during your consultation for breast implants.

  1. What is a periareolar incision? The areola is the pigmented area around the nipple.  A periareolar incision is made on the lower part of the areola where it borders the breast skin.  Surgeons use the periareolar incision because it is usually well-concealed and hardly noticeable.
  2. What are some advantages of the periareolar incision over the inframammary incision? The periareolar incision borders the transition point between darker areolar skin and lighter breast skin.  This transition zone in skin color helps minimize the visibility of the scar.
  3. Can the periareolar incision be used for first-time breast implant surgery? The periareolar incision is used for primary and revision breast implant surgery as it allows for maximum visualization of the entire breast implant tissue pocket.
  4. How can I schedule an appointment for breast implant surgery in your Los Angeles plastic surgery office?
