Is hydroquinone the only option for melasma and dark spots? - Kare Plastic Surgery in Los Angeles

Is Hydroquinone the only option for melasma and dark spots?

Facial discoloration is an ongoing problem for many adult women of childbearing age.  Years ago, facial discoloration associated with pregnancy was the main cause of melasma.  Now with the prevalence of birth control pills, hormonal replacement, and plant based and food based estrogens, the external or exogenous estrogen load has increased the overall incident of melasma and facial skin discoloration.  The Melaquin skin program for skin discoloration and uneven skin tone has been shown to effectively reduce the severity of skin pigmentation, skin discoloration, and dark spots.

Melarase creams offer advantages as the top skin lightening product for facial discoloration and pigmentation

The use of hydroquinone is very well established and has a high safety record, but for patients who have an allergic reaction to hydroquinone or other sulfa medications, the Melarase AM topical cream was specifically formulated as a non-hydroquinone based skin lightening agent.  Not all patients will need hydroquinone and thus the Melarase AM is suitable for all skin types and can be used in patients who do not wish to use hydroquinone based products.  To purchase Melarase AM or to learn more about the Melarase skin brightening line of product, please visit www.kareskin.com.

In the Los Angeles area, Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is also pleased to offer the MelaPeel treatment for stubborn post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, skin discoloration, or melasma.  The MelaPeel is an effective minimally-invasive treatment to help improve pigmentation at the cellular level and can be performed on normal to oily skin without harsh side effects or discomfort.  The pigmentation chemical peel is recommended on a one month interval for three consecutive months to reduce pigmentation and skin discoloration.  Treatments require minimal downtime and will often be associated with mild peeling that can mimic a sunburn.  Patients are able to return to work duties the day of the procedure.
