Can itching and burning occur on keloids?

Itching and burning are often symptoms felt by patients who have active keloids on the chest, back, face, and extremities.  The itching and burning is a sign that the keloid is in an active phase of inflammation and can be minimized using a combination of therapy including IIT, intralesional therapy, pressure treatment, and laser.

Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a specialist on keloid surgery and keloid management and can provide you with several options for treatment for keloids.  Keloids have two main features, namely a rapid growth phase and a secondary inflammatory phase in which itching, pain, discomfort, and burning occurs.  The management of painful and itching keloids begins with conservative measures to minimize inflammation and to reduce the overall size and progression of the keloid itself.  For questions related to keloid management in the Los Angeles area, please call our surgical patient care coordinator at 310-998-5533 and schedule a consultation for treatment.
