How common are keloid scars on the chest?

Chest keloids are among the most common types of thickened scars that develop on the body.  Usually, these scars are a result of ingrown hairs, acne, or previous surgery.  The majority of scars on the chest can be treated effectively without surgery, however there are a subset of patients who require surgical excision of the keloid scar in order to reduce complications of scar contracture.  Chest keloids are commonly a result of an autoimmune response to oil arising from active acne.  Once the chest keloid begins to form an inflammatory cycle begins to induce fibroblast stimulation and results in a thickened scar on the chest.

Regardless of whether or not you have active acne, keloid scars in the chest can be effectively treated using a regimen developed by Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian.  Dr. Karamanoukian is one of the premier experts in keloid therapy and has consulted with celebrities and others regarding the cosmetic appearance of thickened keloid scars and hypertrophic scars all over the body.

Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a board certified plastic surgeon and an expert in the surgical and non-surgical management of keloid scars.  He practices in Los Angeles and performs surgery in both Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.
