Los Angeles cosmetic breast surgery: How soon after a breast augmentation should someone undergo a mammogram?

How soon after a breast augmentation should someone undergo a mammogram?

Breast cancer screening is important in all adults females of childbearing age.  Routine screening begins with self breast examination, followed by mammograms annually as prescribed by your plastic surgeon or primary care physician.

Dr. Karamanoukian is a firm advocate of routine breast cancer screening as well as mammograms for all female patients, regardless of whether or not they have undergone breast augmentation

If you have recently undergone a breast augmentation, Dr. Karamanoukian will recommend a timeline for your first mammogram, depending on your individual risk factors, family history for breast cancer, and breast tissue characteristics.  It is prudent to undergo at least one baseline mammogram after your breast augmentation is complete.  Patients who have saline or silicone breast implants are asked to inform a mammography center about their breast implants in order to maximize visualization of the breast tissue in regards to the breast implant.  If you have questions about routine breast screening or mammography after breast implantation, please call our Los Angeles plastic surgery office at 310-998-5533.  Dr. Karamanoukian is an expert in cosmetic plastic surgery and can assist you in evaluating your candidacy for breast augmentation, breast implant revision, breast lift surgery, or breast enhancement surgery.  There are many new options available for breast augmentation and breast volume enhancement.
