Liposonix treatment Questions & Answers - Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian - double board certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles

The patients with stubborn areas of fat along the waistline and abdomen have many surgical and nonsurgical options including liposuction and a new FDA approved procedure known as liposonix.  In most people normal diet and exercise is helpful in reducing unwanted pockets of fat in most areas of the body, but there is always some stubborn areas of fat that are less sensitive to metabolic restrictions and diet and increased exercise regimens.  The liposonix treatment is a nonsurgical, needle-less plastic surgery procedure that can eliminate stubborn fat from the waistline and abdomen using a system known as high intensity focused ultrasound.  Liposonix has undergone rigorous research and has a proven safety record for nonsurgical fat removal on the abdomen and waist.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a double board certified plastic surgeon and utilizes the liposonix treatment in patients who have significant pocket of unwanted fat along the waistline, upper abdomen, lower abdomen, and flanks.

What results can be expected from a single liposonix treatment?

The liposonix treatment has undergone several refinements over the last three to five years.  The second generation liposonix treatment is the most state of the art high intensity focused ultrasound treatment for nonsurgical liposuction available in the United States.  Extensive studies have showed permanent efficacy with the liposonix treatment for subcutaneous fat removal.  The patients should begin with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, at which time they will undergo assessment of their unwanted fat pockets as well as body contour.  During the consultation, alternatives for liposuction and nonsurgical liposuction will be discussed with particular attention to the liposonix system.  Once a patient choses to undergo liposonix treatment, a two hour procedure is scheduled during which time the patient will receive mild analgesics and light anesthesia in a clinic setting in order to undergo the liposonix treatment.  The patients can take analgesics such as ibuprofen or Tylenol prior to the procedure.  The liposonix treatment typically takes one hour to perform and the patients note mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising immediately after the procedure.  During the ensuing eight to twelve weeks, the treated areas of fat will be absorbed by the body and a slimmer waistline can be achieved.

How long is a typical procedure with liposonix?

The treatment with the liposonix high intensity focused ultrasound begins with a thorough consultation, followed by a treatment.  Most procedures will take approximately two hours to perform with the first hour dedicated to patient education, postoperative instruction review, and the liposonix treatment.  The patients are administered a light analgesic in order to minimize pain during the procedure.  The patients can also tolerate the liposonix treatment without analgesic or anesthesia, if requested.  A typical liposonix session will take approximately one hour to perform with the rest of the two hour time slot devoted to patient eduction and postoperative care.

How soon can one see results with liposonix?

The liposonix treatment usually takes one hour to perform and is followed by slight swelling and bruising along the treated areas.  The patients who undergo the liposonix treatment may benefit from the high intensity focus ultrasound in treating the unwanted areas of fat along the flanks and waistline.  The patients will note minor swelling, followed by a gradual reduction in waist size and unwanted fat.  The typical time to resolution is typically eight to twelve weeks, with patient seeing continued results beginning at the one-week interval.

What are the typical side effects with liposonix treatment?

The liposonix treatment has undergone extensive research and clinical support that has shown minimal side effect associated with the nonsurgical liposuction procedure.  High intensity focus ultrasound is administered using a patented transducer that minimizes injury to overlying skin.  The patients typically report mild discomfort, followed by a tingling sensation that may induce minor swelling.  The patients will also note some bruising and swelling after the procedure.  The main side effect with the liposonix treatment includes minor bruising, transient discomfort, swelling, and skin redness.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian will also recommend a Bruise Pak before and after liposonix treatment to minimize these transient side effects.
