Can varicose veins get worse with time? Santa Monica Vein Center in Los Angeles - Vein specialist - Dr. Karamanoukian

Varicose veins often represent an underlying medical condition known as venous insufficiency, in which the valves of the superficial vein system are not working properly.  Often there is no underlying medical condition associated with venous insufficiency, as abnormal veins can occur as a result of prolong standing or sitting, family history, genetics and level of activity.  There are many healthy adults patients who have progressive varicose veins and vein disease as a result of these many risk factors.  Varicose veins are often seen as bulging or bluish veins underneath the skin that can progressively worsen with time.  The patients with underlying chronic venous insufficiency may have quicker progression of their varicose veins versus someone who has purely cosmetic spider veins or thread veins.

If you are concerned about your varicose veins, a board certified vein specialist Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian can help evaluate your condition and provide you with full details about your veins.  Dr. Karamanoukian utilizes the most state of the art laser and radiofrequency equipment to help improve the cosmetic appearance and medical concerns regarding varicose veins and spider veins.  If you have questions about varicose veins and wish to schedule an appointment with Dr. Karamanoukian in his Los Angeles office, please call our Santa Monica vein center patient care coordinator at 310-998-5535.
