What is sclerotherapy?, Santa Monica Vein Center, Los Angeles Vein Treatment

Spider and varicose veins can cause medical and cosmetic changes in the legs and thighs.  Often, this is a cosmetic concern and can change the overall appearance of the legs.  In some cases chronic spider veins and varicose veins can begin to affect the comfort level of an individual during normal daily activities.  These medical concerns can include symptoms of pain, discomfort, itching, burning, throbbing, and cramping.  Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic treatment that is used to eliminate unwanted spider and small varicose veins from the legs and thighs.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a board certified vein specialist as well as a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in the management of spider and varicose veins.

During the sclerotherapy treatment in our Los Angeles office, a small amount of a FDA approved medicine is slowly injected into an unwanted vein in order to irritate the lining of the blood vessel and cause it to collapse.  The body will absorb the spider vein and thereby eliminating it altogether.  A series of sclerotherapy treatments are often required to eradicate a network of spider and reticular veins.  After sclerotherapy treatment a prescription is provided for compression support hose that are to be worn for at least five days after the sclerotherapy treatment.  Unwanted spider veins and varicose veins can altogether disappear with successful sclerotherapy injection.  If you would like to learn more about sclerotherapy and options for spider and varicose veins, please call our Los Angeles plastic surgery office at 310-998-5533.
