There are many options when choosing a facial rejuvenation treatment.  The range of options include cosmetic facial surgery  (face-lift, neck-lift), laser skin resurfacing that can retexture and tighten the entire face and neck area, and injectable volume fillers and wrinkle reducers.

In order to choose which option is appropriate for you, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian recommends a cosmetic consultation with an experienced team of cosmetic specialists who can determine whether volume enhancement, wrinkle reduction with Botox, neurotoxins, injectable fillers, or facial cosmetic surgery is right for you.

Volume enhancing injectables are one of the easiest and least invasive steps to facial rejuvenation.  They allow Dr. Karamanoukian to enhance areas that may have volume loss such as the areas along the nasolabial folds, jowls, under eyes, and cheeks.  Injectable facial fillers have dominated the cosmetic surgery market for the last decade and have a proven record of safety and efficacy.  The goal of facial volume enhancement is to restore fullness to areas that naturally atrophy and lose volume with age.

Radiesse Injections: Stimulatory Facial Filler

Goal:  To restore volume and contour to the facial areas along the nasolabial folds, deep lines, cheeks, labiomental fold, and temples.

Radiesse is one of the most popular facial volume fillers on the market today.  It is composed of natural calcium base, microspheres that can stimulate collagen reduction in areas where there are deep folds and facial atrophy.  The goal of Radiesse is to restore volume in the initial phase and to stimulate collagen in the long term phase after placement.  Radiesse can be injected into many areas of the face in order to restore youthful volume and attractiveness to the cheeks and hollows around the eyes.  It is an ideal facial filler for volume restoration and can help reduce deep lines and wrinkles along the face.  The downtime with Radiesse facial fillers may be as minimal as 20 minutes, wherein the areas of injection appear red and swollen.  A small fraction of patients may develop minor bruising that usually subsides within several days after treatment.  Our office does not recommend Radiesse facial filler immediately before a major event.  The treatment may require several days of full facial recovery you look your best.  Among the different types of facial fillers on the market, Radiesse has one of the longest lifespan and may last over one and-a-half years in certain parts of the face.

Juvederm: Hyaluronic Acid Facial Filler

Goal:  To restore volume and contour to facial lines around the eyes lips and cheeks.

Juvederm is one of the earliest temporary facial fillers that appeared on the market.  It has a long history of safety and efficacy in terms of facial volume enhancement.  In fact it is so well received by plastic surgeons and dermatologists, that it is often the filler of choice for the lips and nasolabial folds.  Juvederm is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body.  The benefit of Juvederm injections is the naturalness of the results and the ability to undo the filler in the rare case that it is unwanted or overdone.  Juvederm is ideal for lip augmentation and nasolabial fold augmentation and last approximately 6 months to 12 months on the face.  Downtime with Juvederm is very similar to Radiesse, wherein small areas of redness are seen in the initial time period after injection with possible swelling and bruising last two to three days.

Options to decrease facial bruising after Juvederm or Radiesse injections include Bruise-Pak, a natural supplement offered at Kare Plastic surgery, and avoidance of any blood thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

Restylane: Hyaluronic Acid Facial Filler - Popular

Goal:  To enhance and volumize wrinkles along the eyes, lips, and cheeks.

Restylane is very similar to Juvederm and is an ideal facial filler for someone who wants a natural improvement in hollowness and deep lines in the areas around the eyes and lips.  Restylane is ideal for the tear trough area as well as for lip augmentation.  Much like Juvederm, Restylane is a hyaluronic acid facial filler that has long term efficacy and safety in sensitive areas of the face.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural occurring substance in the body.  The longevity of Restylane is approximately 6 months to 12 months and the filler is reversible in the rare case that it is overdone or unwanted.  Downtime with Restylane is very similar to Juvederm with areas of redness and swelling in the initial phase after injection, and rare bruising that may last two to three days.

Botox: Wrinkle injections for fine lines and migraine headaches

Goal:  To relax fine wrinkles along the eyelids, mid forehead, and forehead.

Botox is the most popular and most well-known facial rejuvenation procedure in the world.  Millions of individuals have undergone Botox injections to reduce lines and dynamic wrinkles along the eyelids, glabella, and forehead.  Botox is ideal for forehead lines, crow’s feet, elevens, and even vertical neck bands in the midline neck.  Botox usually last approximately four months and can also be used for underarm sweating and palmar hyperhidrosis.  Recovery after Botox is minimal and Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian has specialized expertise in Botox injection along the eyes and lip areas.  If you are considering Botox injections, a consultation will help you determine whether it is an appropriate option for you in terms of facial rejuvenation.  Often, Dr. Karamanoukian will combine Botox with facial fillers in order to maximize results and enhance the overall youthfulness and attractiveness of the face.
