Will a thickened capsular contracture lead to breast implant rupture? - Kare Plastic Surgery - Los Angeles - Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian

Breast implant rupture may be associated with a breast implant capsule.  A condition known as capsular contracture results from a thickened tissue capsule that begins to change the shape of the breast implant contained within the breast tissue.  As the tissue capsule begins to thicken, the breast implant shell may begin to distort the overall contour of the breast and lead to asymmetry and changes in the breast implant itself.  It is thought that breast implant capsular contracture may lead to a premature rupture rate for breast implant due to the chronic distortion of the implant shell.  In addition there are may be ossification and inflammation related changes in the tissue capsule that may lead to progressing waring of the breast implant shell.  The long term implications of tissue capsules may be a premature rupture rate of silicone breast implant.  Dr. Karamanoukian is a trusted plastic surgeon with specialized expertise in the management of capsular contracture.  The patients who have changes in their breast tissue after the development of capsular contracture may require a capsulectomy or capsulotomy to release the tissue capsule and minimize the long term risks of a thickened tissue capsule.  In many cases, the breast implant is unharmed if the capsular contracture is treated early.
