Recovery after capsular contracute post breast augmentation surgery : Kare Plastic Surgery in Los Angeles

The development of capsular contracture is a complication that is related to breast implant placement.  Although breast implant capsular contracture can occur in the early or late setting, most patients with breast implant live a healthy and complication free life.  The development of capsular contracture, however, can change the cosmetic appearance of the breast as well as lead to symptomatic pain and discomfort.  The procedure designed to treat capsular contracture of breast implant include capsulectomy and capsulotomy.  In these two procedures, the thickened tissue capsule on the breast implant is either removed or incised in order to release the breast implant pocket and to restore a natural contour to the breast.  Breast implant surgery is a safe procedure and has many cosmetic benefits.  However the development of capsular contracture must be treated in the early phase in order to minimize long term complications and minimize the risk of recurrence.

Recovery after breast implant capsular contracture surgery depends on the severity of the initial condition as well as the type of procedure performed to treat the capsular contracture.  Capsulectomy is a more aggressive type of treatment than capsulotomy and may result in approximately three to five days of downtime.  During this initial period of recovery, most patients will progressively increase their level of physical activity with return to work usually within one week after surgery.  Capsular contracture is a progressive condition and may have a characteristic plateau phase that develops in unpredictable fashion.  Treatment of capsular contracture should be decided early in the development of the problem in order to minimize the progression of disease.
