A columellar incision is commonly used in an open rhinoplasty procedure to expose the columellar cartilage and the tip of the nose.  The incision is usually an inverted ‘V’ with wings that extend into the nasal mucosa.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian is a board certified Los Angeles plastic surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures.  An open rhinoplasty is usually performed to visualize key elements of a rhinoplasty during complex nose surgeries and redo nose surgeries.  For information regarding nose surgery, rhinoplasty, or septoplasty in Los Angeles, contact our office to schedule a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian.

A columellar incision is barely noticeable within a week of surgery. Tiny incisions are closed with small sutures at the end of surgery. The incision corresponds to normal cartilaginous contours and is easily hidden after surgery.  To determine whether you are a candidate for an open or closed rhinoplasty in Los Angeles, an examination will have to be performed to determine the complexity of the rhinoplasty. An open rhinoplasty technique can maximize visualization of the nose cartilage and help refine the cosmetic treatment of the nose and nasal tip.
