What can I expect for recovery after breast implant removal? Los Angeles Breast Surgeon

What can I expect for recovery after breast implant removal?

Breast implant removal can be performed for patients who no longer want breast implants, the patients who have capsular contracture and severe scarring after previous breast implant surgery, or patients who have had complications from breast implants that warrant removal.  The majority of patients with breast implant removal options should consider the volume of the breast that will remain after breast implant removal.  Once the breast implants are taken out of the body, the residual breast tissue will form the majority of the remaining breast tissue.  The position of the nipple and areola should also be considered as an important determinant of whether there will be excessive sagging and skin laxity after breast implant explantation.

Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian performs breast implant surgery and breast implant removal for patients who no longer wish to have breast implants in their breast.  Both saline and silicone breast implants can be removed with minimal surgery and minimal recovery.  If you are considering breast implant removal or explantation of existing breast implants, Dr. Karamanoukian can provide you with several options for post surgical contouring of the breast.

What incisions are used during breast implant removal? Los Angeles Breast Implant Surgeon

What incisions are used during breast implant removal?

Breast implant removal can be performed for both cosmetic and medical reasons.  The patients often wish to undergo a explantation of existing breast implant for cosmetic reasons if there is significant rippling and or distortion of the breast with existing breast implants.  Medical reasons to undergo breast implant removal include a history of cancer and inability to obtain proper mammogram and breast screening as a result of tissue capsule formation or breast implant placement.  For many of these patients, breast implant removal reduces the unnatural appearance of the breast and can maximize cosmetic and medical gain.  The incision use to remove existing breast implants includes the periareolar incision and inframammary incision.

The decision to use a particular incision pattern depends on whether is an existing scar along the breast at the time of surgery.  The patients who have undergone umbilical or axillary incisions often cannot use these existing incisions to remove the breast implants.  If you are concerned about breast implant explantation and removal and wish to discuss your options for incision placement, please call our Los Angeles plastic surgery office at 310-998-5533 and speak to our breast implant surgery coordinator to discuss your options for breast implant removal in Los Angeles.

Can I change the type of breast implant from moderate to high profile? Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon

Can I change the type of breast implant from moderate to high profile?

There are many different styles of breast implants that are available in both silicone and saline.  The majority of these implants are classified into three main categories, including normal profile, moderate and moderate plus profile, and high profile.  The profile of a saline or silicone implant will determine how much projection there is in the implant and will dictate the overall height and projection of the breast.  In addition higher profile breast implants will generally have a narrower diameter and are less likely to cause heaviness on  lateral part of the breast.  The importance of breast implant profile in the overall cosmetic appearance of the breast is relatively underrepresented.  Board certified plastic surgeon and expert in breast augmentation and breast implant surgery, Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian, places high importance in the overall profile of the silicone or saline breast implants.

In his Los Angeles plastic surgery office, he begins every consultation for breast augmentation with an analysis of breast width, breast size, and overall breast dimension.  Choosing a breast implant profile is as important as choosing the overall volume of the breast implant.  For those patients who have moderate profile breast implants or low profile breast implants, changing the type of implant and profile of the implant is often a necessary step in improving the contour of the breast.  Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian can provide you with specific details on the nature of the surgery and can help you chose the appropriate breast implant profile to match you cosmetically.
